KUDO® MONTAGE SYSTEM is a system encompassing a range of professional KUDO® materials designed to be used during installation (including securing and sealing) of window/balcony/door units in openings in exterior walls of buildings and structures. The KUDO® installation system makes the work fast and accurate.
KUDO® KMS covers KUDO® PROFF PU foam sealants for the thermal and acoustic insulation of gaps, KUDO® PROFF MS joint and repair sealants that protect the foam from the outside and from the inside and finish the joint, professional adhesives for fixing trim and hardware, and cleaners of different strengths for preparing surfaces before bonding and for spot cleaning.
The materials of KUDO® MONTAGE SYSTEM are fully compatible with each other, which rules out sealant cracking, loss of adhesion to the adjacent surfaces, bubbling of the sealant and other defects.
Preparing the window openings
CLEAN, DUST OFF, DEGREASE
Before the insulating materials are applied, clean the surfaces of the opening and of the structure from dust, dirt and construction debris with a stiff brush. Remove oily stains with a fast-evaporating hydrocarbon solvent that leaves no greasy marks (acetone, ethyl acetate).
At sub-zero temperatures, also clear the surfaces of snow, ice and frost and warm them up.
PRIME
If the walls were built by wet methods (masonry, cast-in-place concrete), treat the surface of the opening with a vapor- and moisture-barrier protective compound in 1-2 coats. This keeps moisture from the walls out of the foam and preserves the thermal insulation performance of the joint.
Treat loose and crumbling areas with a consolidating primer.
Filling the installation joints
WORK STAGES:
- Mist the surfaces of the opening with water before the foam is applied.
In winter use KUDO® PU Foam Activator KUPP06ACT instead of water. - Fill the opening with a PU foam sealant of the KUDO® PROFF range in a continuous layer, with no voids, to two thirds of the depth to leave room for post-expansion; when filling the lower horizontal joint, pack the foam carefully around the setting blocks.
- Mist the applied foam with water.
- Once the foam in the joint has cured, trim off the excess.
If the window frame profile is wider than 80 mm, or if the installation gap is more than 1.5 times wider than the standard (GOST) allows, fill the gap in layers, with pauses between the layers as recommended by KUDO® on the product technical data sheet and/or on the label.
Protecting the installation joints
PROTECT THE FOAM ON THE OUTSIDE
On the outside, the foam has to be protected from UV radiation and from moisture entering the joint. At the same time the outer protective layer has to be vapor-permeable so that excess moisture can escape.
For the outer layer of the installation joint we recommend KUDO® PROFF acrylic vapor-permeable joint sealant, exterior.
WORK STAGES:
- For a neat joint, mask its edges with painter's tape.
- The surface may be dry or damp before application, but not wet.
- Apply the sealant no earlier than 24 hours after the joint has been filled with foam; at sub-zero temperatures, no earlier than 48 hours. Apply KUDO® PROFF acrylic vapor-permeable joint sealant, exterior in a layer 4.5 to 5 mm thick. The sealant must contact the surfaces of the opening and of the frame over a width of at least 3 mm on each side. Smooth the sealant with a spatula.
- Remove the painter's tape before the sealant sets.
PROTECT THE FOAM ON THE INSIDE
Moisture can reach the foam from inside the room through condensation. The inner protective layer therefore has to keep moisture and water vapor out of the joint and away from the foam.
For the inner layer of the installation joint we recommend KUDO® PROFF acrylic vapor-barrier joint sealant, interior.
WORK STAGES:
- For a neat joint, mask its edges with painter's tape.

Finishing and trim
JOINTS ON THE OUTSIDE
Seal the joints between the frame, the other elements and the wall, indoors and outdoors, with KUDO® PROFF silicone neutral sealant, which gives a flexible joint.
WORK STAGES:
- Clean and degrease the surfaces with KUDO® PROFF PVC Cleaner №20.
- For a neat joint, mask its edges with painter's tape.
- Apply the sealant with a slight excess.
- Wet the applied sealant and the adjacent surfaces with soapy water.
- Shape a neat joint with a sealant spatula dipped in soapy water.
- Remove the painter's tape before the sealant sets.
JOINTS ON THE INSIDE
Indoors, seal the joints between the window sill and the frame and between the reveals and the frame with KUDO® PROFF acrylic silicone sealant, which withstands moisture.
WORK STAGES:
- Clean and degrease the surfaces with KUDO® PROFF PVC Cleaner №20.
- For a neat joint, mask its edges with painter's tape.
- Apply the sealant with a slight excess.
- Shape a neat joint with a sealant spatula.
- Remove the painter's tape before the sealant sets.
Bonding trim and hardware
Use KUDO® PROFF cyanoacrylate adhesive to bond drip cap end caps, thermometers, name plates and hardware covers, and to splice gaskets.
WORK STAGES:
- Degrease the surfaces to be bonded with KUDO® PROFF PVC Cleaner №20.
- Apply the adhesive to one of the surfaces to be bonded.
- Press the parts together and hold them for 5-20 seconds.
Caution! The adhesive forms a very strong but non-flexible bond. Do not use it on parts subject to vibration or deformation.
Treat window hinges, locks and gear drives with KUDO® PROFF multipurpose silicone lubricant spray. It leaves a polymer film that is chemically inert and works over a wide temperature range (–40°C to +200°C), lubricates the parts and drives moisture out of the joints.
WORK STAGES:
- Shake the can well before use.
- Apply a thin layer of the lubricant to the surfaces.
- The spray head with an extension nozzle gives precise dosing and placement.
Warm installation
The most vulnerable point for heat loss and moisture build-up is the junction between the wall and the window (door or balcony unit). Only insulation that stays dry keeps mold from forming around the joints and keeps them from freezing through. That is why following the procedure and using the right materials matters here.
Warm installation relies on three layers working together.
- The inner layer (vapor-barrier sealant) forms a barrier that keeps moisture and water vapor from inside the building out of the foam.
- The middle layer (PU foam sealant) provides thermal and acoustic insulation.
- The outer layer (vapor-permeable sealant) blocks moisture from outside and at the same time lets excess moisture leave the joint as vapor.
KUDO® MONTAGE SYSTEM delivers thermal comfort and resists mold growth and freezing at the junction between the window (door or balcony unit) and the wall.
