The look of an old microwave oven can be refreshed with the appliance repair alkyd paint KUDO® KU-1311. The white of this paint matches the color of the paints that microwave ovens are finished with at the factory.
Preparing for painting
When home appliances are painted, particular attention has to go to degreasing the surface: a kitchen always holds a lot of grease that settles on everything around. For degreasing you can use Silicone remover KUDO® KU-9100.
After thorough degreasing, the surface to be painted should be scuff-sanded with fine M1000 sandpaper to improve the adhesion of the paint film to it.
Surfaces that are not to be painted should be protected with masking tape or other means at hand.
Painting
Apply the paint in 2-3 coats from a distance of 25-30 cm (10-12 in.). Flash-off between coats should take 15-20 minutes and must never exceed 1.5 hours. If more than 1.5 hours pass between coats, polymerization starts in the lower coat and the solvent can make it wrinkle. That is why the stated interval has to be followed strictly. If for some reason the second or the third coat could not be applied in time, let the lower coats polymerize completely, which takes from two days to two weeks. Then scuff-sand the surface and apply the top coat.
After the last coat, let the paint dry for at least 24 hours. Once the 24 hours have passed the microwave can be used again, but keep in mind that the coating keeps building its full strength for two days to two weeks. For these two weeks the painted surface must not be subjected to mechanical stress or washed with a brush or a sponge.
Important! The appliance repair alkyd paint KUDO® has no special approval for painting surfaces that are in direct contact with food, so it can be used only on surfaces that do not touch food.
What is the temperature rating of the appliance paint KUDO® KU-1311?
The appliance repair alkyd paint KUDO® KU-1311 withstands continuous heating up to 80 °C (176 °F) and short-term heating up to 120 °C (248 °F). That is quite enough to keep the coating durable on every body part of a microwave oven: these parts simply do not get any hotter.
