Car owners often face the question of how to protect the surface of the car. A professional stone chip protector handles this job well. It gives long-lasting corrosion protection to the underbody, the fenders, the lower part of the bumpers, the wheel arches and the rocker panels of the car. It protects the surface from flying stones, which create a heavy abrasive load, and from road salt and aggressive chemicals.
The KUDO® stone chip protector forms a tough, flexible coating that withstands temperature swings. It does not crack or peel off in frost. It has good adhesion and sound-deadening properties, and it dries quickly. Once dry, the coating can be painted over with most types of paint.
How to use the stone chip protector
- First clean the surface of dirt and rust with a wire brush and sandpaper.
- Then degrease the surface with a silicone remover.
- To neutralize the traces of corrosion and improve adhesion, prime the surface with the rust converting primer. It is best applied in 2–3 coats with no more than 2 minutes of intercoat drying.
- Once the primer has dried, the stone chip protector can be applied in two or three coats with 10–15 minutes of intercoat drying. Full drying time of the stone chip protector is 2 hours.
- The day after the stone chip protector has been applied the car can be washed in any way.
Which body parts can be coated, and with which version?
There are three types of stone chip protector: smooth, colorless and textured.
The smooth stone chip protector suits the side panels of the body — mud flaps and the lower parts of the doors, for example. It can also be used on rocker panels, individual areas of the underbody and the edges of the fenders, but for those surfaces we recommend the tougher textured version. If you are going to paint over the coating, the textured one is preferable: paint holds on it much better and much longer than on a smooth surface.
